Thunderclap

Award-winning art critic Laura Cumming talks about Thunderclap, an examination of the Dutch masterpieces interwoven with the story of her painter father. Shortlisted for the Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction 2024, the book explores a life in art, from seventeenth-century Delft to twentieth- century Scotland, from Rembrandt’s studio to contemporary London, and it considers what a painting can come to mean. Laura is chief art critic for The Observer and the author of On Chapel Sands (2019) and The Vanishing Man: In Pursuit of Veláquez (2016).
